Forum updates inbound!

Postby Darkfoxx » Thu Feb 25, 2016 3:29 pm

After a long wait, the theme that we use for phpBB was finally updated, which means that I can finally upgrade the forum software from 3.0.14 to 3.1.8.

3.1.x was a complete overhaul of the software and adds a lot of new features. I hope to get things upgraded in the next week or so.

I'll also be searching through my archives to restore some long lost files that I know you guys want to see again. Drunk Mike, Vyl's rage, Brick yelling about things, etc etc. You may see these files are usually linked as thestoleneye.com/dls/filename.ext and the link is broken. I hope to change that! I don't remember why exactly but I had to change webhosts back in 2010 and a lot of the files didn't get carried over for some reason.

I pay every month for the server that houses the forums and TS. If y'all want to donate, you're more than welcome to.

$30 bucks every month isn't a lot but it does add up.

can we set up recurring donations or something?

Also we can probably host the forums on one of our home PCs at this point. We dont use them like we used to since we started the FB chat group. i could probably host on my raspberry pi lol.

i responded before actually clicking the link. Recurring is an obvious check box next to the donation amount!

Someone needs to play devils advocate here.....

With Facebook and FB Messenger, why do we still need forums, outside of sentimental reasons?

*EDIT* I don't want this to sound like I am pooping on a parade, that is not my intention. I'm only throwing the question out there to see what kind of answers it will get.

It's still nice to post stuff for discussion purposes (fantasy football, meets, pictures, etc). Shit gets lost in FB messenger very easily.

I could host everything at work if needed, that isn't the problem. I just like having a separate server that isn't tied to any one location. Once I move offices in June I'll have a datacenter-grade connection at work so I could definitely host everything there.

And yeah you can do recurring donations. Although yours didn't work for some reason...not sure why.

I like the forums as like an archive or for posting permanent info. I hate twitter because if you miss 5 minutes you'll never see those tweets. same with messenger.

Also I tried it again. I looked back at my OG paypal confirmation email and it listed a transaction id of "0". Aaaaaand it just did it again. WTF? Can I just send to your email?>

The link you supplied looks like the old paypal site. It's very possible it's borked. New links look like the main part of the site. The donation doesn't even show up in my transaction log, only when I'm "Disputing a transaction". Of course the Trans status of "Created" is not listed as a valid status on their help page...

Yeah just send to justin_maciak@yahoo.com.

I created a new donate link as well. That link was like 7 years old, haha.

Try this: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?c ... aNonHosted

if that doesn't work, try this: https://www.paypal.me/TheStolenEye

That one doesn't do the recurring thing, though.

I tried the first link. So far it looks the same on my end as the old link. I submitted the donation and received an email confirmation with a transaction ID of "0" and a timestamp of Dec 31, 1969 19:00:00 EST.

Fucking PayPal. I guess I'll report it to them as a bug. That was generated directly on their site: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd= ... e&fli=true

I guess just use the https://www.paypal.me/TheStolenEye link

The forums have been updated from 3.0 to 3.1. I've also added the updated version of the theme we were using before. They changed it a bit, but mostly for the better.

Let me know if you spot any bugs or would like to see anything added. Or if anything is missing. Thanks!
