borked my sis's computer - she has vista, need help

Postby Fist of the eskimo » Fri Dec 12, 2008 4:42 am

hey, my sis's laptop was running really slowly and she's running vista, and now she can't get on the internet (wirelessly)

here's what I did:

- saw there was a shitload of background programs so ran msconfig and disabled all on start-up which really sped things along

-next... ran a disk clean-up on her c: which freed up 8 GB of stuff

- tried to run internet

- no worky

- re ran msconfig and re-enabled all things

- still no internets

Need help plz

Well it sounds like an issue with either the wireless card or router. Go to command prompt and type ipconfig and see if ur getting an ip. If you are (should be a lan ip) then theres a problem with the connection from the router to the modem. Maybe the router droped the modem or something. You could go in to that router by typing the ip of it in internet explorer, example 192.168.0.1 is standard. If you dont get an ip, then see if the card got loose, but it might be integrated. Which in that case, you might have to buy a usb wireless, or just another card.
What's necessary in a fight isn't fear.
Nothing can be born from that.
If you dodge, "I won't let them cut me".
If you protect someone, "I won't let them die".
If you attack, "I'll cut them".

Can you connect via wire? Just to see if the Internet is working.

I know on most laptops there is a button to turn wifi transmitting off to save power. Maybe you bumped it or something. On some laptops there is a mysterious button on the side, and on mine it is Fn+F2. Kinda basic, but that is the only thing i can think of.
