CTF-Pistola (map in progress)

Postby Darkfoxx » Thu May 28, 2009 11:52 pm

I really want to make a map for TF2, but I can never come up with any good ideas for a layout.

So, I did the next best thing and fired up Unreal Tournament 2004 and checked out a few maps. As you know, there are many ports of other game's maps into TF2 (like Chaos from Q3F or Geothermal from UT2k4).

I chose the map CTF-BP2-Pistola because it's just a nice sized CTF map that always had good action in UT2k4. I can't find a version of this map in TF2, so I'll be the first to make it.

Here are some screenshots from UT2k4 that show the map (for reference):

I'm basically going to use this thread to post my progress, so check back often for updates.

I also challenge the rest of you to make a map if you're feeling up to it and have some time to spare. It's a nice diversion from gaming, which right now, is kinda boring. If you need any help using Hammer, just let me know...I'm pretty experienced.

Bricks map would win. Its much larger and older then foxxs and it slows down anything it touches.
I type a bunch of shit then people go fuk themselves

A grendelkeep or bridge-of-fate remix would be sweet too :p. Maybe I could do one of those.

After a few days now of building, the map is starting to shape up. I have the basic form done and now I'm going through each room adding the necessary detail. Please excuse the brightness of the map, as I have not yet added any lighting...so Hammer sets it to fullbright mode.

This is the flag room, untextured & w/o details. Where I'm standing will be the rough location of the flag. The metal door you see on the upper right side is one of the spawn exits, and the opening to the left of it is the battlements.

This next pic is of the spawn room, fully built and detailed. It's just missing lighting, which is going to be one of the last things I do overall. As many of you who played UT2k4 remember, there were no "respawn rooms". So, I had to creatively work one into the map and have 2 exits in differing locations. This presented a problem at first, but I was able to work them in nicely.

This last pic is of the other spawn exit. This area is my favorite part of the map because of the partial glass and steel walls/roof (it was alot of fucking work!). It really sets this map apart from the original Pistola UT2k4 map and adds my personal touch. This area is fully built, but not yet detailed/textured to my liking.

Since I'm going to be gone for a few days, I figured I'd post what I've done since my last post.

I started adding lighting earlier than I had wanted to, but oh well. So if the screenshots seem a little dark in places, it's because I haven't finalized the lighting yet.

Glass/Steel room:

As you can see I added a better skybox texture (that mountain in the background). Those prop barrels aren't final, just threw 'em there for fun. Added lighting. The orange textures in the background aren't final obviously.

Respawn room:

Added lighting. Added more props.

Flag room:

Added more structural elements (roof, beams). Added textures (not final), added props, added lighting.

It's coming along! :D
