Now please shut up about how having guns are better than not having guns.

how does that have anything to do with guns? They give like a dozen possible reasons for this...and the high rate of jail time is something Conservatives and Libertarians alike have been trying to combat for years. For instance, Rand Paul has been trying to push for legislation that would eliminate mandatory minimum jail time for illegal drug users.

Also, there are figures that up to 1/4 of our total population currently behind bars are illegal aliens. Deport them and we're down significantly. Go softer of soft drugs like pot and we're down, too. Legalize pot federally and wow!

Very informative vid about the M1 Garand and the ammo used:

(from CTD email)

I'm still leaning towards an M1 Carbine or SKS, but the Garand is an interesting contender.

That sound used to be very detrimental to US troops during WWII. The sound let the enemy know when they were out of ammo and had to reload. Eventually the US started simulating the sound so that the enemy thought they were empty and would come out then the US could blast them

Looking at this http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/GUN-514#

Mossberg 500 12 gauge with hunting and defense barrels. i think it'd be nice to have one shotgun i could take trap or skeet shooting and but also use it for optimal home defense. swappable pistol grip and stock and 28" and 18" barrels. the price is right, too, and has free shipping. even with $50-100 NICS @ an FFL dealer it's a good deal IMO.

Yeah that's mine except with an added longer barrel for hunting and a standard stock. Good deal!

LOL @ NJ: http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB1 ... 2749375392

A law that injects technology into the gun debate has lain dormant for more than 10 years. Now it may be about to wake up.

In 2002, New Jersey passed a law saying that once technology is available to prevent a gun from being used by an unauthorized person, only that type of handgun may be sold in the state.

Now, a German company, Armatix GmbH, is close to putting the first such "personalized" handgun on U.S. shelves. The model, called the iP1 Pistol, can be set up to fire only when its owner is wearing a special watch that communicates with the gun.

The New Jersey law, the only one of its kind in the U.S., mandates that within three years from the date such a gun becomes available in any state, all handguns sold in New Jersey must include technology to limit their use to specific people.

The Armatix model already is available in Europe and Asia and will "almost certainly" reach U.S. stores by the end of the year, according to Belinda Padilla, the president of Armatix's U.S. arm.

The iP1 Pistol will cost $1,399 and the watch an additional $399, Armatix said. That is a significant premium over a Glock or Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. SWHC +5.81% handgun, which costs in the range of $400 to $500.

So.... electronically-locked gun. requires a watch in proximity to fire the gun. watches require batteries. battery dies, gun doesn't shoot. gun is currently only available in .22 . .22 is a weak round and not considered to suitable for self defense. it's also pretty unreliable in a handgun. the gun costs 4x what a typical glock goes for. Win?
