Why an "assault weapons" ban is complete BS: there is NO distinction between an "assault" or "military-style" semi-automatic civilian rifle and a "hunting" or "sporting" rifle. they are IDENTICAL. They fire the same rounds and often feature the exact same firing mechanisms. the only difference? the appearance.

Re: Random Political Thread
my only gig is with fully automatic weaponry. idrc about semi-auto stuff, since you are right, there isnt much reason for those to be banned, but fully automatic rifles are essentially overkill for everything.
Re: Random Political Thread
BTW NJ's gun laws are a major reasons i chose to leave the state. Both PA and DE, and also VA (where i also considered moving), don't track firearms, require permits to purchase handguns, or make you report ownership to local authorities. They forced registration and tracking in Louisiana, and during katrina the cops went door to door, per the governor i believe, confiscating legal, registered firearms from law-abiding citizens. It's been well-documented that some of these same people were then robbed and raped afterwards. Fathers, previously armed, were held at gunpoint by thugs and forced to watch their wives and daughters being raped, rendered helpless by the government sword to protect them. The eventual US Supreme Court ruling that this confiscating was entirely illegal is no solace to the lives forever changed. This is why we take our 2nd amendment right so seriously. Gun confiscation doesnt just happen in communist nations. it's happened here, and the consequences are irreversible.
Also, i legitimately do not feel safe walking around my new city at night. I am seriously looking into concealed carry. Maybe im being over-cautious and sound like a typical gun-nut, but ive had to look over my shoulder every time ive walked "about town". i do not feel safe and secure, despite the policeman walking around.
