The line on the ATF dipstick, it looks slightly overfilled.

Excuse my dumb head, but wouldn't the improper shifting result from a computer issue? Maybe a bad solenoid? Trying to understand things myself.

Possibly. Nearly impossible to diag. an issue like that over a forum. First step would be to scan the Transmission Control Module (if equipped) and go from there.
