Thinking of getting a new car, and other thoughts on GM

A Pontiac Solstice GXP. theyre around 15-17k. thoughts?

it got absolutely great reviews for the few years it was out, and many, many people were disapointed when GM decided not to port it to another brand when they shuttered Pontiac, as they did with a few models.

BTW, i still dont know why they did that to pontiac. i know GM had to restructure and change many significant practices during their government-forced restructuring (another topic entirely), but why'd they close pontiac and hummer? those 2 brands always seemed to me to be some of the more successful ones under the GM umbrella. I mean they have 1 brand without a single unique vehicle (GMC) making completely identical vehicles as another (chevy), yet pontiac and hummer had some very unique vehicles that often didnt have direct competitors, and IMO were better than their competitors anyway. it's not like they were redundant models, like a GMC sierra vs chevy 1500 or something. And hummer i understand even less...there are sooo many hummers driving around my hometown and nothing else competes with them. they are a class of vehicle all their own, and they seemed to sell well considering their $50-70k price tags.

I already told you what I thought. It's a solid choice.

I have always had a thing for the Saturn Sky and the Solstic. You get the look of a BMW while still maintaining you dignity. If I were looking for a little sporty car, It would be this.

gonna pay off my recent moving expenses and then seriously look into this. There's a few in the area.

What do u think i can get for my car as a trade-in? i was thinking ~$5k. KBB has it around 6500 retail (dealer) price in what i believe to be my car's condition - bent tie rod that isnt too bent yet, 2 new tires and other 2 in good shape, aftermarket stereo and speakers, aftermarket CAI, aftermarket tune + tuner if they'd want that, some cosmetic rear bumper dmg, typical dings and scrapes, aftermarket taillights (one being fogged up and fills up with water, im sure they could fix it), and the only mechanical problem im aware of, is that it pops out of 5th gear unless i shift at low RPMs.

just under 50k miles. 2.0L Turbo, rated 260HP, and supposedly can be tuned instantly to 290. im told its got a custom exhaust (it sounds great). the body is in great shape for the # of miles on it.

holy shit is it cramped inside. it feels like a fight jet cockpit. it's cool, but not without compromise. where justin's car is the exact same size, at least he has room to put misc shit in his car (like spare change). This car has nothing. it has a glove box, one small compartment behind your right shoulder (same as the Z4), and the custom stereo allowed for 1 small slot under it. thats it. there are some pouches behind and under the seats. the trunk is almost completely useless with the top up, and the 1.5 cu ft of space with it down is an insult, even to other roadsters.

considering my job may require me to deploy/transport multiple desktops, printers, monitors, etc, it's going to be very interesting. i put a 17" CRT in the passenger seat the other day. that was fun.

But WOW is it fun to drive.
