Ok, I know this is a really informative thread and that they rarely come along around here anymore. I did not, and still am not trying to derail it........

...... that said

Just because I know what the levels of Defcon are does not mean that I'm old! That shit is common knowledge! Chips, after I read your reply, assuming that the reason I know such a thing is because I'm old, I went on a survey around the shop asking this simple question. Which is worse, Defcon 1 or Defcon 5?

First guy, my boss, is late 40's or so. I asked him, he had no idea and actually replied "is that some kind of video game"?

Second guy, 32, thought Defcon 5 was bad, like Jif.

A 66 year old man knew exactly what it was but then again, so did a 20something.

Survey says, knowing the levels of Defcon without first using Google does not mean your old. It just means you know some shit about stuff and other people don't.

*edit* War Games was an epic movie. (spoilers)

Oh you guys...

Back on topic. My boss wrote a simple python script and was able to hack our own firewall very quickly. It creates a memory grab when a user logs in. You can actually see the password in plain text....fuckin' scary. He said he "tested" some other vulnerable servers out there on the Interwebs and the results were equally scary.
