Computer noob that needs your help.

Postby Tanis Half Elf » Tue Nov 04, 2008 6:41 pm

So i just bought a 5.1 headset, it looks awesome there is but one problem. There are 5 hookups and I only have one. I thought the sound just played out of the USB, not 5 outputs.

I was looking through newegg and I found this.

Tell me what you think about it. It would save me from having to return this headset.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Follow these instructions. Whether u have a sound card or use onboard the instructions are the same. Each plug from the headset has a color that should match the ones on the back of your computer. The USB port like the guide says only gives power to the amplifier. This is the workaround when u have a desktop, but if u have a laptop is different. Talk to me in vent if that is the case. Hope it helps

Didnt see you in vent when i just looked. But yea, all i have on my laptop is a usb port and your standard output and mic, for a traditional headset. I was hoping the item I posted would make those headphones work on 5.1. If anything i can buy it and if it does not work i can get a refund.

Those headphones are "real" 5.1 surround sound that depends on either a sound card or onboard sound with the proper inputs. One for Front channel/"subwoofer", another one for surround, another for center channel, another for the microphone and the 5th being the usb to power all that sound. In your case since you have a laptop, having those headphones would be a waste since you really will be using only 2 channels as opposed to 5 that the headphones offer you. It's not worth the trouble, not for a laptop if anything i would invest in getting a express card from creative labs to give you better sound better output better everything related to how you listen and/or sound when using a microphone. I have their latest sound card on my desktop but im using a 15 bucks headset, how do i sound? probably better with a more decent set of headphones but this does the job for me for now.

It's not in stock there, but google it you'll find it.

dont buy 5.1 headpohnes, theyre all junk. standard headphones provide the best audio experience BY FAR. a set of quality cans will sound better than even a 7.1 system. headphones have the best audio positioning for pinpointing gunshots and footsteps, better than speakers could ever do.

these are the best headphones in the world for underat least $150. they dont have a mic but you can find a good stand mic one for 10 or 15 bux.

all 5.1 headphones are 100% gimmick. they might technically provide 5.1 sound but the bass usually sucks a big one and fitting 4 speakers in each ear means you get 4 VERY, VERY small speakers instead of 1 large one.

I was hoping a more expensive headset would get rid of some of that buzz that comes over vent when i key up.

2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6826158051
3. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6826504004

I am taking your advice by returning the 5.1 headset.
I am getting a headset opposed to headphones because I like my mic attached to me. I tried the stand mic before and I don't like it.
