BF42 was revolutionary, but not as fun as it should have been. gameplay was slow and campers were gods. also it had bad netcode and was pretty buggy even to this day. there are bugs still in BF42 (as of the launch of BF2) that were in the game in closed beta.
BF2 was much better on infancy/ground maps. helis and planes ruined the entire gameplay. tanks and vehicles were very balanced and infantry combat was pretty good. it still didnt have great netcode and no lag compensation and has very poor modern-day PC support (no widescreen HUD support whatsoever). it ALSO had some of the SAME bugs from retail until i stopped playing like 2 years ago. i had a lot of fun on the smaller and medium-sized ground maps but couldnt stand to load up the game after i got a widescreen LCD. i think there may have been 3rd party/community inis to fix the HUD but i didnt care to play anyway by that time.
