new case - long post w/ lots of pics, eski might get bored
Asus Maximus Formula...this is a standard-sized ATX mobo Q6700 @ stock for the moment, 8GBs RAM
X-Fi Platinum Champion Professional Series Editon XP or w/e the fuck w/ my custom-rigged replacement X-Fi Drive data cable
Diamond HD4870x2 which is 10.5" long. 140mm fan to the left
there's the PC Power and Cooling Quad Silencer 750 that's longer than most PSUs (it overhags the PSU mounting bracket extension on the floor there). it only has 1 80mm exhaust fan on the back
great cable management...ive seen more and more cases do this recently (900 does it as well). there's a good 1/2" behind the motherboard tray/back wall to tie up cables. makes for a clean look and great airflow
the sweet HDD bays with my Hitachi Deskstar 750GB...the drive aims twds the back to hide all connectors. to swap drives you pop open the tab and the whole plastic tray slides out. there's no screws at all but you can add them if you want.
the gfx card is really, really, heavy and the plastic tool-less clips that hold the X-fi in place no prob are no match for the 4870x2.
luckily there's a not-so-quick easy method of removing the brackets you dont want so you can screw shit in instead.
230mm fan on side with a sweet-looking window above. can swap the 230mm for 4 120's if desired. also the HAF logo is pretty slick
4 USB, 1 useless firewire, 1 esata front ports
x-fi drive below the dvd drive. i hate creative so much but no one makes good sound cards with freaking front drives.
i dont get it. so many better cards out there but no one can make a fking external drive like this cheap pos?
u can put 5.25's in all those slots below the x-fi drive.
230mm fan behind the grill with very mature-looking/not in-yo-face red LEDs. it doesnt even light up my legs in front of the case, only the fan itself. very cool
another 230mm up top. can be replaced with 2 120's. front of the top has a 900-like cubby or w/e that also has a hole for filling up a liquid cooling reservoir. you can take the top cubby thing off and add a 3rd 120 instead.
also the whole top was designed to support and house a radiator for water/liquid cooling
also my toes
had an extra pic left over
HAF vs 900
GPU temps dropped 25 C from the 900 but i didnt really do cable management in the old case. my PCP&C psu has really, really long wires and they wouldnt fit behind the mobo tray wall cause there was like a combined 8' of unneeded and extra wires. srly like 8'. the cables are like 3' each, it's ridic. theres enough room to do full cable mgmt with any PSU with the HAF.
like the 900 it also doesnt have fan filters, which is what i hated most about the 900. i'll rig some pantyhose around the intake fans, something that would take like 30 mins in the 900 from all the thumb screws and front bays that need to be removed and fans that need to be unplugged.
the fans that come with HAF are all 3pin and can plug right into the mobo. that means you can view rpms for each fan and if the mobo supports it you can even throttle them based on hard limit or dynamically based on temperatures. each fan comes with 3pin to molex adapter but 3pin is way better most of the time
