Not bad. Not bad at all.

Two things:

How much do you pay a month?

and how does your free tethering work? Is that just how it is or did you have to root it?

there are several non-rooted apps that allow free tethering Bacon.
Beyond that, if at most hes paying is going to be for an unlimited data and texting/calls
most of these plans are sub 100 a month

Verizon for instance if he's doing purely data plan is going to be 29.99 for unlimited data.

dont need root, plenty of apps do it. there's also wifi and BT tethering apps so i can share my connection without needing the USB cable. plus android 2.2 is in beta testing now and will offer native mobile hotspot (phone becomes a wireless router) for up to 4 devices.

i'm still getting a 20%/mo discount from the 3 years ago that i worked at circuitshitty so i think my bill will be about $75/mo. it's been 50 even for the past year with the cheapest voice plan + 10/mo for txt and now the data plan is 30 - 20% = $24. i remember digitally signing the employee discount form in 2007 for the 20% discount and it said they can retroactively bill be for the 20% discount difference if they discover i am no longer an employee of circuit city...glad they have no idea CC doesnt exist anymore...

yeah. supposedly att is rolling out a decent amount of 3g this summer but we'll see how that goes...

Yeah the only reason the iPhone doesn't have free tethering is because the app store is controlled and att will tell apple if there are things in there that they don't like.

also: If you switch to sprint, beware of the Evo. or any HTC phone for that matter. There have been lots of issues lately including the screen coming out of the phone and the touch screen working very badly when the phone is not grounded...

just cause you aren't likely to use it without holding on to it with both hands doesn't make the point moot though. What it does is shows that the HTC phones have inferior build quality compared to phones that are already properly grounded

Id suggest looking at reviews for the Droid X and the Droid 2

Droid X (aka Droid Shadow) should be announced in the next 2 weeks for Vzw
Looks solid, only downside is it is about as large a form factor as you can get while allowing it to be called a phone, if i recall it also has an 8 megapixel camera on it capable of filming 720p video.

The Droid 2(only project name not the ship name) only has some vague pictures atm but it is being touted as the Droid v2, see original Droid and then look at what everything else does, supposedly its going to be a crazy strong phone but I dunno with Swype becoming so prevalent i rarely use my slide out keyboard anymore, its just so much faster on a phone to Swype.

I might be re-contracting to a Droid X, so long as VZW pulls the same thing ATT did by allowing people to freely bounce out of an older model and into a newer better phone without any issues.

Yeah I know Jif. I was just sayin

Also MOTO is supposed to be doing an event the day before the iPhone 4 is officially released. I'll admit, the android phones are getting a lot better which is superb for both parties.
