Figured I'd post what I've been working on for the past few weeks.
We decided to get rid of our current deck because the majority of the top decking is rotted at the ends, as well as some of the under-structure.
Of course things aren't ever easy...when we removed the top tier, the rim joist was extremely rotten (because of poor flashing) and the previous owner actually sprayed foam into the rotted rim joist to fill it up and put the siding back over it. People are fucking stupid!
Anyways, so I had to remove the rotten rim joist and replace it. The next step was to remove the joists/ledger from the top tier and start on the bottom tier.
Finished the demo today. We're probably gonna get someone to come in and pour a concrete slab or something...maybe stamped concrete or some other design.

Figured I'd give an update of what I've been doing this week (to compete with Rob ).
We're going with a concrete patio type setup for the deck, so I went ahead this week and started repairing the siding.
Start with this photo and go forward. Read the comment under the pic for more info...

Alright, last update on this project. Siding is all done, and now it just needs to be painted...and that's where my dad comes in. I don't do paint.

Re: Random tools thread
So my Saturday morning was pretty sweet. I have one of these (http://www.amazon.com/Milwaukee-0824-24 ... B000I20UX2) and one of these (http://www.milwaukeetool.com/ProductDet ... ess+System) and one of these (http://www.milwaukeetool.com/ProductDet ... ess+System). I was putting in a new T-stat (http://www.pexsupply.com/Wirsbo-Uponor- ... -2063000-p) to replace my old Mercury bulb T-stat. Once I took the cover off I realize I needed a #1 Robertson screwdriver, which was an excuse to go to Home Depot. Turns out Home Depot was having a 20% sale off Milwaukee/DeWalt this weekend (which I was aware of).
Anyways, my drill was starting to crap out so I was in the market for a new one. Anyways, long story short I ended up getting one of these (http://www.milwaukeetool.com/ProductDet ... ess+System) for $320 which was a steal IMO.
