hitachi 750GB 32MB. it was the fastest drive in the world when it was new (faster than the Raptor)

Intel x25-V 40GB. <$130 drive. the write speeds are correct. i think intel may have limited the write speeds via firmware to not eat into x25-m sales.

this little drive is amazing for the price. if you can deal with 40GB, $115 shipped for this performance is insane for an OS drive. it is being marketed as an "OS boot drive" because of it's good read speeds, small capacity, and low price. -v stands for value, good value! supports TRIM

I'm pretty close to elbowing my monitor at this point.

Like I said earlier, the download of Win7 comes as this shitty packaged thing that you have to extract. I guess it suppose to be an in-place upgrade or something.

Anyways, I need to make a bootable DVD out of it so I use ImgBurn to create an ISO of the files. Everything works fine and I burn the iso to a dvd.

The dvd isn't booting on my PC. Ok, so I figure I'll reburn the dvd at 1x to ensure nothing gets fucked. I test this new DVD on my laptop...and it boots into Windows 7 setup beautifully.

Alright, so let's try it on my PC. The dvd drive is just cycling when I put it in and it never boots into the DVD. I already did a CMOS clear to make sure everything is fresh, but this son of a bitch won't boot to the DVD. OK...so let's try another DVD. I try my Vista DVD and it boots just fine to it.

WTF?

Oh, and to make matters worse...I can't flash my SSD because 1. my system won't boot to a USB with the firmware on it and 2. it won't boot to a CD with the firmware on it.

fml.

Probably just going to boot to my Vista install if I can't get this working soon.

Just put your old one in, sounds like you need a break ;) Could be worse, you could have gone to the southeast corner of Beluslan to go rifting and find out that 1) you have no idea how to get to that spot 2) it's all level 45+ mobs.

Try to boot it from a flash-drive, if possible.

Good news everyone! (yeah you read it in THAT voice)

I finally made a dvd that boots up inside my Vista install. Previously, I couldn't even view the files on the DVD I made. There was a slight error when I was making an ISO out of the Windows 7 files. A field called "Sectors To Load" in ImgBurn was set to 4, when it was suppose to be set to 8 for a Windows 7 install disk.

Helpful information if you used the same Student deal I did and want to make a DVD.

Basically you use the "expandedSetup" folder as your source after clicking on the .exe that the Microsoft downloader puts on your Deskop for Win7.

Then you just follow these instructions:
http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=11194

Hopefully going to install Win7 now. I'll probably be back on Vista tonight though, since I won't have time to install Aion and all that shit.

Windows 7 Pro 64bit successfully installed! I'm on it right now.

Guys, I seriously jizzed my pants when I saw how fast this SSD is. I updated my first post with the test results.

Holy fuck. Remember when you went from DialUp to Cable/DSL? Yeah...it's like that.

Programs load instantly! I didn't even patch the firmware yet or install any board drivers.

I found this guide, but it was written a little too late to help you out fox.

This is a guide for making a bootable cd for the student version of W7.
